Overseas Missions: Uganda May/June 25
Kalikwani Children's Home (KCH)
My month-long volunteer experience at Kalikwani Children’s Home (KCH) in Kamuli, Uganda, was truly life-changing. Living in the home and spending each day with seven incredible young people, ages 10 to 18, was both a joy and a blessing. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with open arms and instantly felt as though I belonged.
The Lord moved powerfully in this home. It was such a privilege to share the love of Christ through simple actions and daily life together. There were many “firsts” for these children - small moments that carried big joy: trying Butterkist popcorn and English breakfast tea, playing musical chairs and other games I grew up with, and enjoying little treats that brought endless laughter.
Through the generosity of sponsors, we were able to bless the children with brand new bunk beds and mosquito nets, replacing the worn-out mattresses they had been using. They received their own pyjamas, towels, and shower gloves, and two of the young girls were gifted a bicycle (to share) so they could travel to and from school more easily. For the first time, the children also received a shared tablet computer to help them become more tech-savvy, and the older girls were able to have their hair done at a salon, something they had never experienced before.
Each child was touched in unique ways as the Holy Spirit led. This looked like offering emotional support during a hospital surgery, praying for freedom from nightmares (which the Lord graciously answered), reminding them of their worth and value, and raising their expectations for what God has planned for their lives. One of the highlights was taking them on a trip to Jinja, where we visited the Vipawa Children’s Art Museum - a day the children still treasure as one of their favourites.
Beyond KCH, donations of books and stationery, were also distributed to children in the wider community. The joy on their faces as they played with dance ribbons and blew bubbles for the first time was unforgettable.
Leaving Uganda was not easy for me or for the children, as tears flowed freely. These precious young people are now part of the Zalika Wallace Ministries family, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
Thank you to everyone who donated to this mission.

Opengate Church of All Nations
I spent a week volunteering with Pastor Alfred and his family, who lead Opengate Church of All Nations, a new church plant located in a remote village just outside of Jinja, Uganda. This is the only church in the area, and it stands as a beacon of hope for the local community.
It was a unique experience to witness first-hand the spiritual challenges the people face, and yet also to see the light of the Lord breaking through during home visits and Sunday services. Pastor Alfred and his team have dedicated their lives wholeheartedly to serving God, travelling daily (around 30 minutes drive from their home) to minister to this new community.
Their boldness and obedience to plant a church in a place where many others might hesitate is a powerful example of being the hands and feet of Jesus. I was especially inspired by their unwavering faith and commitment, even in the face of challenges, to see lives transformed by the love of Christ.
